At Villa Maria, we offer basketball at the Varsity and the Junior Varsity level. We also have teams in the Girls Catholic Academy League (GCAL) and in the local CYO league. This information is to help you choose the correct team for your daughter.
Girls Catholic Academy League
This team is a competitive team that plays against other catholic academies located in Montgomery Co, Delaware Co, and Chester Co. The other teams in this league are very skilled and play at a highly competitive level. For Villa, these teams typically only carry 10 to 11 players. While there is always a focus on skill development on all of our teams, the level of play for these teams is a bit more advanced than the regular recreational program. Playing time on these teams will be fair, but NOT equal. Every member of the team plays an intragyral part to the success of the team, but that will not always translate into playing minutes in every game. All games are played after school. For away games, we only provide transportation to the game. Parents must pick the players up from the game location.
Typically we have two CYO teams at the Varsity and the JV level, here at Villa. These teams offer a basketball experience that is focused on skill development and team success. Coaches make every effort to strive for equal playing time at the JV level. At the Varsity level, playing time is not always equal but it is consistent. The level of play at the CYO level is not as competitive as the GCAL but Villa always has a good showing. The Villa CYO teams are the perfect place for a girls who enjoys playing basketball and wants a fun, learning experience while representing our school. Most games are played on Friday nights and weekends. Transportation is not provided for any games.
