Fourth Grade Studies Systems of the Body in 4D
The fourth graders have been studying animals and the different systems of the body: digestive, nervous, circulatory, etc. To help them visualize the different systems, Instructional Technology Coach, Mrs. Callan, and their teacher Miss Behr brought them a very cool new tool: the free iPad app, Anatomy 4D.
Using the app as a visual guide, the girls use target papers designed by a company called Daqri, and while holding the iPad over the picture of the body (they also used a photo of a heart), the picture jumps off the page in 4D and the girls can select the system that they want to see appear within the image.
“It was an eye-opener for them to see the stuff moving through the body,” said Miss Behr.
The girls favorite part was the nervous system, because they could physically see it moving along the bones and the body.
“Not only was it a good teaching tool, but it was fun for them and really brought science to life,” said Miss Behr.
The girls also looked at the heart and were able to see the blood and air pumping through and around it.
