Fourth Graders Challenged to Design the Ultimate Tiny Dream House
As a STEM extension, Fourth Graders were challenged to design the ultimate “tiny” dream house. Given an area of only 240 square feet, girls considered how to make their house both practical and fun to include all they required for their dream house. Working in teams, the girls used Math skills and imagination to measure and design a scaled floor plan for their “Tiny” Dream House. They imagined where their house might be located and how that location would affect the layout and design of their house. Once their designs are completed, the girls will bring their drawings to life and build a scale model of their tiny dream houses, using shoe boxes, Popsicle sticks and cardboard. This project based learning activity integrates multiple elements such as problem solving, collaboration, design, and planning that connect concepts across multiple platforms. We can’t wait to see their final product!
