St. Sophia House Reclaims Title at House Volleyball Championship

On February 2, St. Sophia House took on St. Elizabeth Ann Seton House in the annual House Volleyball Championship Game that takes place during Catholic Schools Week.  Each year the Middle School Houses play for the “Taffy Trophy.”  The Houses play in playoff games during their lunch recess in the week leading up to the championship game.  When the finalists are determined, the Championship game takes place in front of the entire student body.  The excitement fills the gym and everyone always has a great time.  This year, St. Sophia took back the “Taffy Trophy,” which they lost in an upset at last year’s game.

The middle school House System at Villa is a great way for our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to interact with one another.  Each House consists of a mix of each grade and they participate in activities together during Catholic Schools Week, the Family Mass and Picnic, and special seating days in the cafeteria.  Each House has a group of 8th grade leaders that help to facilitate the lunch conversations.  Those 8th graders also helped to organize the teams for the volleyball game. And each middle school teacher is the moderator of a middle school House.

Following the Championship, the entire 8th grade prepared for one final game… against the teachers! The teachers put up a good fight and even though then ended up coming back, the 8th graders still took home the win. “They have some very talented girls in that 8th grade,” said Mrs. A. “They did a great job.”

Congratulations to the students of St. Sophia House for reclaiming the “Taffy Trophy,” and to the 8th graders on their win against the teachers. Until next year girls!
