Cradles to Crayons Representatives Speaks About Coat Collection
At Villa we believe it is important to connect with and learn about the people we help through participation in service projects. Yesterday, representatives Suzanne and Christina from Cradles to Crayons in Conshohocken visited Villa to talk with middle school students about their participation in the Winter Coat Drive organized by the 7th grade. Suzanne and Christina spoke about their involvement in the organization and recalled stories and thanks from families. Suzanne showed a video of children in Philadelphia speaking about how appreciative they were to receive the donations and she reminded the girls that “when doing a collection, even though they may feel removed, to remember the children in the video and how much of an impact the donations make for the families.” Students were surprised to learn that Philadelphia is the second poorest city in the country and that in the last 10 years since their start in Philadelphia, Cradles to Crayons has helped a half million children through the generous donations they have received.
Following the presentation, 7th grade students helped bag the collection of coats and load them into cars for delivery to the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory.
Thank you to Cradles to Crayons for your work with the poor and for helping us to connect with a community in need that is so close to home. Special thanks to the many students and families that contributed to make the drive a success.
