Celebrating Computer Science Week
Computer Science Week was last week! CSEdWeek is an annual program dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take interest in computer science.
Although we do Computer Science and programming all year long at Villa, we do stop and celebrate Hour of Code in a special way.
Fourth grade’s challenge during #ComputerScienceWeek was to code Finch robots to make drawings! Students had to make their robots move in specific shapes to drag the marker to create their picture. The girls wrote their programs within the coding app.
Third graders programmed LEGO WeDo flying birds for #ComputerScienceWeek! Students programmed the tilt sensor to activate a flapping sound as they move the tail up and down, flapping the wings. They also programmed the motion sensor to activate a tweet sound when the bird tilts down to its feet.
Eighth graders are coding with the Grinch! Some of our eighth graders used algorithms to program a drone to capture presents and bring them back to Whoville.
Some other eighth grade students programmed Finch robots in STEM class through the BirdBlox app to play Christmas music to share with younger students. Groups also had fun decorating their Finch to make it festive and adding lights to play along with the music.
Seventh graders created nativities in STEM on the 3D printers to celebrate #ComputerScienceWeek.
