Fifth Graders Build Rovers with Wireless Robot Kits
Out-of-this-World adventures have begun in STEM. Last week, 5th graders were introduced to our brand new LEGO WeDo 2.0 wireless robot kits. The girls worked collaboratively to build a rover that will simulate a mission to Mars. Students examined a variety of available sensors and added the motion sensor to their robot build so that the robot would have the capability to detect objects and react. After practicing with our robots, we will put this program to practical use and by simulating a supply retrieval mission akin to the one currently being conducted by University of Hawaii’s HI-SEA’s experiment. The girls are thinking critically and using their skills as programmers and algorithmic thinkers to solve simulated “real life” problems.
