First Grade Celebrates 100 Days
Last week, the first graders celebrated 100 days of school at Villa! They had lots of fun with their 100th day activities.
The girls made cupcakes with 100 sprinkles and added all the different colored sprinkles together to see if they added to 100. They found that by putting the sprinkles in groups of ten it became a much easier way to complete their 100 addition sentence.
Then they thought about what they might look like when they are 100 years old and created pictured of themselves.
They played a fun game called Race to 100, and also put together a 100-piece puzzle!
Their favorite activity was completing a 100-themed engineering task. The girls were given 100 plastic cups. The task was to create the tallest standing tower that would stand for one minute. The girls worked in partners or groups of three. They learned a lot about balance, about creating a strong foundation, and a lot about teamwork and collaboration. “The girls were very engaged and laughter could be heard throughout the whole first floor,” said Mrs. Long. The highest structure ended up being 37 inches high. There were some others that were taller, but were unable to stand for one minute.
