Eighth Graders Create Infographics on Catholic Social Teaching
In Mrs. A’s Religion class, her Eighth graders are creating Infographics for selected topics in Catholic Social Teaching.
There are seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching: Life and Dignity of the Human Person, Call to Family, Community, and Participation
Rights and Responsibilities, Option for the Poor and Vulnerable, The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers, Solidarity, Care for God’s Creation. The girls were divided into seven groups and then given a subtopic such as domestic violence, dirty water in the world, the minimum wage gap, the catholic vote, the gender wage gap, the negative effects of foster care, etc. for their theme. “They were not afraid to shy away from tough topics,” said Mrs. A.
Each girl was then given the task to create an infographic on that subtopic using a free program called Piktochart – an easy drag and drop interface with free templates and graphics to help create beautiful and colorful presentations.
Mrs. Dow introduced the girls to Piktochart and taught them how to use it and Mrs. A integrated the religion piece into the project.
“They are still working on them, but they are turning out really nice. They’re having fun with it,” said Mrs. A.
