Kindergartners Study the Five Senses in a Cross-Curricular Lesson
Each Friday, the Kindergarten class chooses an experiment from Discovery Kids 101 Great Science Experiments book. This week, they choose to do an experiment having to do with the five senses. “I like to give the girls the choice, because student voice, even at a young age, is very important,” said Miss Kate Beck, Kindergarten Teacher. “It gives them a sense of responsibility in their learning, which is something we have been talking about in class. The girls choose the five senses experiment to tie in with what they just learned in Religion – that God gave us our five senses.” The girls looked at Rorschach inkblots for sight, shakers with objects such as rocks and glitter for hearing, they felt things like play-doh and beads in paper bags, the smelled things like soap and vinegar in covered cups, and closed their eyes and tasted pretzels and popcorn and apples. They had so much fun guessing and using all their senses!
