Fifth Grade Students Create Christmas Ornaments Using 3D Printer
On November 3, Instructional Technology Coach, Mrs. Melissa Dow, began a 3D Printing Unit with the Fifth Grade. They started learning about what 3D printing is and how it works. The girls even looked at our 3D printer in action. The girls will learn how to design in 3D using TinkerCad, a free, easy-to-learn online app used to create and print 3D models. Once they learn how the program works, they will be designing a Christmas ornament. Mrs. Dow will then print the ornament designs on Villa’s new Makerbot printer. Mrs. Dow said the girls would like to dedicate a tree in the school to these ornaments and then eventually take them home. The girls are so thankful to have the opportunity to use the new 3D printer and experiment with designs. Thanks to our many supporters for allowing Villa this opportunity to offer such wonderful programs to our students to help instill a love for life-long learning, the development of critical thinking skills and the nurturing of creativity in the fields of STEM.
