Kindergarten, First and Second Graders Participate in Leadership Workshop Led by Villa Teachers

Last week, teachers and students in Kindergarten through Second Grade got together to begin their Leadership Workshop. The program is based on Sean Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Sean Covey believes that the 7 Habits are leadership qualities all students can learn and that developing these leadership skills will prepare students for the future.

Today, the girls were taught the first Habit – Be Proactive. They were read aloud a story and then broke out into mixed grade discussion groups to brainstorm ways they can be proactive in their own lives.

Kindergarten Teacher, Miss Kate Beck and First Grade Teacher, Mrs. Barbara Long created the Leadership Program. “We think that this is a great way to develop leadership skills in the primary grades. We look forward to implementing this leadership program for K, 1, and 2,” said Miss Beck. “We are also going to be concentrating on women as role models in the program and incorporating the IHM Charism as much as possible. This is going to be a great adventure for our girls to embark on.”

The group will meet twice a month to introduce and develop an understanding of the habits through whole group and small group discussions, incorporating a reflective piece and a service piece two times this year that is student born and student led.

Thank you teachers for empowering our girls!
