Kindergarten Students Perform at Storybook Character Show
Today, the Kindergarten performed a Storybook Character Show for family and friends.
For this project, the girls read a fiction book with a female main character. “We build up the importance of females who are influential in books and in the real world,” said Kindergarten Teacher, Miss Beck. Introducing the kindergarten students to genre in literature is an important part of the common core state standards.
“The girls read their book with a parent and then came back to school with me and used their retelling strategy that we have worked on throughout the year to explain the book,” said Miss Beck. The girls then used the strategies we have learned in common core such as retelling, writing, speaking and listening. The girls wrote a speech about the book they read in first person as if they were the character and then performed their speech on stage for friends and family.
“I am so proud of their hard work and their confidence! They are proud of themselves and absolutely deserve to be!”
