Villa Honors Blessed Mother at May Procession and Crowning
Villa Maria Academy’s annual May Procession and Crowning took place on Friday, May 12. We gathered to honor Mary, the Patroness of our school, as we crowned the Queen of Angels during a devotional service presented by our students and led by the Seventh Grade. Family and friends were invited to share in this devotional ceremony.
During the month of May — a month named for and dedicated to Mary — Catholics around the world traditionally honor Our Blessed Mother with special devotional services like a May Crowning. The tradition in the United States and many other countries has been for school children to participate in a “May Crowning” ceremony, with a procession of students –Villa’s Second Grade First Communicants wore their dresses, Sixth graders who have made their Confirmation wore their robes, and Eighth graders wore their blue graduation robes.
Our devotional ceremony began with a procession of students on campus into the chapel, then students presented special readings and songs to honor Our Blessed Mother. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fatima, Chaplain Father John Joseph reminded us how we should pray to Mary to look over all the children. During the service, a crown of flowers is presented and placed on a statue of the Blessed Mother by the President and Vice President of the Eighth grade Student Leadership Team, following a rendition of Mary’s song, sung by the Eighth grade class.
We thank our students, teachers, Miss Connors, Sister Patricia and Sister Susan, and all involved for a beautiful ceremony to honor the Patroness of our school.
