Eighth Grader Jordi D. Defends Her Title as Champion at the Chester County Spelling Bee
Jordi D., an eighth-grader from Villa Maria Academy Lower School, correctly spelled “lurid,” and defended her championship title at this year’s 2019 Chester County Spelling Bee.
The Chester County Spelling Bee, which is coordinated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) and sponsored by CCRES Educational and Behavioral Health Services, was held on February 13 at the CCIU’s Educational Service Center. It is open to all students through grade eight enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home school.
Each student earned their position in the Chester County Bee by winning their individual school’s Spelling Bee. Students prepared by studying Scripps-provided word lists and practicing at home.
This is Jordi’s third year in a row at the Chester County Spelling Bee and second year as champion. She loves to read and firmly believes the vocabulary she has acquired over time is key to her recognizing some of the most challenging words, in addition to diligent studying of course! She will keep reading and studying as she prepares for the national finals.
Jordi will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. this June.
We are Villa proud of her dedication and accomplishment!
