This week is National School Counseling Week! Our school counselor, Mrs. Carol Gaspar, is an…
Today, author Angela Dale visited Villa Maria Academy to speak with students. Angela writes picture books for children, former children and children at heart. Her debut picture book BUS STOP, illustrated by Lala Watkins, arrived in libraries and bookstores on October 4, 2022.
Angela met with students in preschool through eighth grade.
During her visit with Preschool, PreK and kindergarten students, following a reading of Bus Stop, they had an interactive session with opportunities for children to ask and answer questions and learn more about how a picture book is created.
Mrs. Dale met with grades 1-3 in the projection room to discuss the making of a book. After reading her story, Bus Stop, Angela talked with students about her creative journey from idea to story through the publishing process to finished book. She even gave the students writing exercises to practice.
During her visit with grades 4-8, Angela discussed The Poetry of Prose – a look at linguistic devices, including meter, rhyme, alliteration, and figurative language, that can add punch to creative writing regardless of form or audience. At this session, she also gave the students writing exercises to practice. We are grateful for her time and expertise.
