Sixth Graders Collect 350 Pairs of Shoes for The Lord’s Pantry
Inspired by the Lenten practice of Almsgiving, the Sixth grade organized a Lenten shoe drive. Donations wet to benefit The Lord’s Pantry as well as help people in developing nations GET ON THEIR FEET.
The footwear was collected in the gym each morning during the week of March 13. The girls spent their lunch recess counting the shoes that were collected and gathering them in bags to give to the representatives from the Lord’s Pantry. They collected 350 pairs of shoes.
Thank you to all those who supported this effort to bring us ONE STEP closer to alleviating hunger!
Service learning allows students to discover more about their personal motivations and apply academic context beyond the classroom. They develop critical thinking skills when challenged with social issues and real-world problems and reflecting on their experience helps them to understand the impact of the individual on the local and global community. Service is a key leadership tenet that permeates every aspect of Villa’s culture.
Thank you girls for your commitment to helping our community.
