All students are given the opportunity to explore the arts including fine art, dance, and music. Along with weekly classroom instruction, there are an abundance of opportunities for students to explore their individual interests. Fine Art

Fine Art Enrichment Opportunities

Art is taught at all levels at Villa Maria Academy. Our students are introduced to art skills, artists, and art history. The goal is to cultivate an enjoyment and appreciation of art, teach skills, build confidence, and encourage creativity. Here at Villa Maria Academy, there are many opportunities outside of the classroom for students to create including art contests, creating artwork for special events, and after-school art programs.

Art Contests

We encourage our students to participate in art contests both locally and nationally. Villa Maria Academy’s student’s art abilities have been challenged throughout the years in the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Art Contest, Wilmington Blue Rocks Holiday Card Contest, the Daily Local News “Design an Ad” Contest, and many more. We are always so proud of our students who take the opportunity to challenge themselves and put their work on display.

Special Activities

Students often create artwork for the school’s special events throughout the year, including Family Mass and Picnic, Mission Day, Christmas Bazaar, Special Masses, and Grandparents Tea.

Dance

Dance Enrichment Opportunities

Our students participate in a weekly dance class to learn the art and technique of dance. All classes participate in the yearly Dance Showcase where students showcase their unique talents and get the opportunity to perform. Dance is a true art form and a great opportunity for each child to express their individuality and creativity through movement.

In addition, Villa Maria Academy offers an after-school dance program for all students including hip-hop, tap, jazz, and musical theater. This is a great way for students to advance their dance training and learn new and exciting dances.

Music

Music Enrichment Opportunities

Villa Maria Academy believes that music touches all of us in almost every facet of our lives. Our students receive general music instruction once a week in a classroom setting, including the study and singing of Liturgical Music. We are proud of our students’ accomplishments as they discover, interpret, understand, and enjoy the fine art of music.

For students who want to take their music studies beyond the classroom, we offer music enrichment opportunities such as ensembles in band, choir, handbells, strings, and tone chimes. Students can also take private lessons for band and string instruments, the guitar, piano, and voice.
