We promote a healthy lifestyle and lifelong dedication to wellness through the development of each girl’s individual health, talents, interests, self-confidence, and relationships with others. From our youngest boys and girls to our developing young ladies, students are taught simple, everyday health habits, and given guidance towards spiritual growth.
The Practice of Yoga for Children
Students are introduced to the physical, spiritual, and mental benefits of the practice of yoga. Some of the biggest benefits of yoga for children is that it teaches bodily awareness and children learn how to use their bodies, developing minds learn how to manage stress in a positive manner, and it increases a child’s self-image and confidence by introducing them to a healthy lifestyle in a non-competitive environment. In addition to weekly yoga practice, girls will enhance their physical and athletic abilities through a variety of non-competitive to minimally competitive sports and activities in our health and wellness programs.
Throughout the school year, there will be a focus on team-building skills such as cooperation, respect of others, communication, and problem-solving. The ability to work together with others as part of a team is not simply a skill needed for children at school and at home. Villa Maria believes that it is a vital skill used in all areas of life. For this reason, we feel that school is an excellent time to cultivate the teamwork ethos your child will then draw from throughout their life. The girls are encouraged to do their best regardless of their skill level because it teaches important life skills such as perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and confidence.
