Learning Commons
Learning today means more than memorizing facts. It means learning to learn for a lifetime. Parents and educators know that the school library is key to teaching students not just to read but to practice the skills they need to seek, evaluate and use information throughout their lives.
The libraries and technology services at Villa Maria Academy aim to provide students and teachers with a variety of resources and materials they need to discover their passions, reinforce their knowledge, and invent a new way of looking at the world while practicing and instilling 21st century skills.
In the summer of 2017, through the generosity of Villa’s donors, the library was completely transformed from it’s traditional setting into a learning commons to meet the needs of modern-day learners.
Facilities and Resources
Villa Maria Academy’s Learning Commons supports a learning environment that works well for girls. The open concept, comfy seating and small meeting spaces with white board top tables offer students more opportunities to discover, create and collaborate, encouraging them to reach out to their peers, and share knowledge. Building collaboration skills is an important part of a Villa Maria Academy education and leads to deeper learning and understanding of content.
The Learning Commons provides the following school resources:
10,000+ books
5 Databases
