Third Grade Students Present Immigrant Stories
As a culminating cross-curricular project to their study of a unit on immigration, the third grade students dressed as immigrants from a country of their family heritage and presented a suitcase filled with items of importance that they would bring on a journey to America. The girls presented their “immigrant story” in front of green screen so a background of Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty could be added to their presentation using iMovie.
In addition to practicing their listening and speaking skills, the girls used their personal research to complete a writing assignment. Inspiration for the project came from their Social Studies/ELA read aloud – Home At Last – Sofia’s Immigrant Diary.
