Fifth Grade Performs “Discovering the Americas”
On Monday, April 3, the Fifth Grade students performed in their annual show. This year’s theme was “Discovering the Americas.”
From the wilderness of Canada’s rustic side to the lighthouses in Maine and the California coastline in the U.S., the girls discovered the beauty of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to the thundering falls and rainforests of South America.
Over the last few months, the girls researched information about different countries in the Western Hemisphere. They collaborated to write scripts for their presentations, and created display boards and iMovies to share all they learned about these great countries. They performed a song from Canada that included Orff instruments, a patriotic rhyme song of the 50 states, and even a salsa dance from South America – project-based learning at its best!
Villa Maria Academy empowers young women through leadership and service in the IHM tradition. As a Catholic elementary school, Villa is committed to the moral and spiritual growth of each student. As an all-girls school, Villa Maria differentiates instruction to the specific needs of girls, while integrating the latest in instructional technology.
