Villa Begins Elective Offerings for K-8th Graders
In addition to Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Religion and added value courses, on September 28, Villa Maria Academy Lower School began implementing a variety of additional courses in an electives curriculum for students in grades K-8.
Students had the opportunity with their parents to choose which electives course to enroll in based on their interests. Courses ranged from Teambuilding, Introduction to Theater, Mindfulness and Cultures Around the World in grades K-2, to Latin Club, Quiz Bowl, Art History, and Hand Quilting in grades 3-5, to Public Speaking, Creative Writing, Microsoft Excel Techniques and Crocheting for 6-8 along with many more offerings.
“Our weekly electives curriculum provide student-selected learning experiences in a number of different academic and non-academic areas with students of varying ages,” said Sister Susan. “The benefits extend beyond the actual elective focus to include the opportunity to collaborate with peers and moderators.”
The elective courses are taught by Villa teachers and meet once a week on Thursday afternoons for 45 minutes and will change each trimester depending upon enrollment.
